Competition Program of the 28th International Children's Theater Festival Subotica has been announced

Competition Program of the 28th International Children's Theater Festival Subotica, held this year from 19 to 24 September, organized by the Open University Subotica, consists of 12 plays for children, from all around the world, selected by the festival programmer, Professor Dr. Zoran Đerić. The audience of the Festival will be able to see various and imaginative performances that come to Serbia from Bulgaria, Israel, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Russia, Croatia, Brazil, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Republika Srpska) and Serbia.

The competition program includes two productions from Serbia. Play – To Theater with Love by the Children's Theater Subotica is a reflection of love for puppet theater, and was directed by prominent directors Bonjo Lungov and Konstantin Karakostov, who also designed the complete stage visual ambience, puppets, costumes and choreography. Their dedication to the stage and theater, with different types of puppets, comes to life through music, dance and skilful animation by actors. The play Bambi by the Kragujevac Children's Theater, directed by Jakub Maksimov, is an author's adaptation of lyrical novel written almost a century ago by Felix Salten, with live music played on several percussions. The play is about little deer’s growing up and getting to know the world. During the play the audience will experience his childhood with joys and difficulties of his growing up.

Play Puppetpassionforkinglear comes from Russia, performed by the Karabakh Theater, and from distant Brazil comes Spirits of Forest by the Cia Elder Kloster Theater. The German Theater Gruene Sosse presents play Three Times King, Czech Draco Theater - Sleeping Beauty, play Aero performs Odivo Theater from Slovakia and play Guli from Israel is produced by the Galilean Multicultural Theater.

Four plays are coming from neighboring countries: Vaskakas Puppet Theater presents play Vuk, the State Puppet Theater Varna from Bulgaria presents play Thumbelina, from the City Theater Zorin dom Karlovac (Croatia) comes play On the Trail, while play Peter and the Wolf comes from the Children's Theater of Republika Srpska, Banja Luka.

The jury of the main competition program consists of Sandrine Grataloup, an independent cultural worker, former vice-president of ASSITEJ in France and member of the board of Scenesd'enfance-ASSITEJ of France, and this year's winners of the Little Prince Award: director and actor Jovan Caran and also puppet creator, costumes and scenography designer - Lyudmila Konstantinova Hense from Kazakhstan. This year, for the first time, was formed Young Jury, which consists of children from primary and secondary schools. This jury will award the Young Audience Award for Best Performance.

All festival programs will be held in accordance with the measures against the Covid-19 virus pandemic, taking into account the safety of visitors and festival participants.

The International Theater Festival for Children Subotica is one of the most important festivals in the region, which for more than a quarter of a century brings together creators who have dedicated their work to the youngest. With a focus on puppetry but also with space for other art forms, the Festival continuously contributes to the promotion and development of theater in Serbia. For its exceptional contribution to the development of performing arts for children and culture in general, the Festival was awarded the Vukova Nagrada in 2005, the largest cultural recognition in the Republic of Serbia, while in 2009 the International Children's Theater Festival Subotica was awarded the Pro Urbe Award for significant contribution to the development and reputation of the city of Subotica by raising its material and spiritual values. The festival is also the winner of the special International Award for contribution to the development of drama education - 2009 Grozdanin Kikot, awarded by the Center for Drama Education from Mostar (BiH IDEA Center (International Association for Drama / Theater and Education)).

The realization of the International Festival of Children's Theater Subotica was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, Provincial Secretary for Culture of AP Vojvodina and the City of Subotica.
