Svetlana Mihajlović was born on March 13, 1961, in Vranje. From an early age, she discovered that playing, becoming someone else, entering another reality and leaving her own behind could be a way of escaping the greyness, the hammer and anvil of everyday life. Where would she go? To the stage, naturally - to the boards that bring her true joy.

And so, for forty years, she has been creating beauty on the stage of the Puppet Theatre Niš. Over the course of her career, she has worked with directors who recognized her talent, including Miroslav Ujvić, Živomir Janković, Srboboj Stanković, Mima Janković, Nikita Milivojević, Kokan Mladenović, Vladimir Lazić, Ivan Pilenyi, Borislav Mrkšić, and many others. Among her dearest collaborators is actor and director Zoran Lozančić, whose productions have given her the opportunity to create unforgettable roles: Mutt (The Three Little Pigs), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz), the Black Queen (Alice in Wonderland), Pollexia (The Emperor’s Hero), Nannerl (Mozart), the Fox (The Little Prince), the Snow Queen (The Snow Queen), the Fox (Pinocchio)... For these roles – and many others – she has received awards at all the major theatre festivals in Serbia, the former Yugoslavia, and internationally: the Meetings of Professional Puppet Theatres of Serbia (Subotica, Belgrade, Zemun, Niš, Kragujevac...), the Festival in Kotor (Yugoslav and International), the Festival in Banja Luka, the International Festival of Children’s Theatres in Subotica, and many others. She is particularly proud of the production Thorny Rose, directed by Vladimir Lazić, which was staged and performed at her home theatre and has already received prestigious awards, including at the FEDU Festival in Sarajevo. Still gazing at the sky and interpreting the smiling stars, she continues to dance with Her Majesty—the Puppet.
