On Tuesday, September 24 - the third day of the 31st International Festival of Children's Theatres Subotica - the audience will be able to watch two theatrical plays: The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish by the Puppet Theatre of Niš (10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Subotica national Theatre’s Jadran stage) and A Dress-Up Adventure by Gobi Dance Company from Hungary (5:00 p.m. at Subotica Children’s Theatre).
The Puppet Theatre of Niš will perform The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish based on the A. S. Pushkin’s fairy-tale (adapted for stage by Nina Pavlović and directed by Vjera Vidov). The play’s main character is an old fisherman who lives modestly in a dilapidated hut by the sea with his wife. His life is about to change upon catching a golden fish that promises him the fulfillment of his wishes if he releases it back into the sea. He does so without asking for anything in return. However, his wife becomes terribly angry and orders him to ask the magic fish for a new trough. After she’s convinced that the fish is successful in fulfilling her wishes, the old lady becomes mean demanding more and more on a daily basis – starting with a new house, clothes, jewelry to servants and guards. Even becoming an empress was not enough for her, so she asks to rule the seas and have the golden fish as her servant. Upon hearing that, the fish cancels the spell and the old woman ends up with nothing.
The Hungarian Gobi Dance Company will perform A Dress-Up Adventure (written and directed by Rita Gobi). How does an average day start? By jumping out of bed, quickly putting the clothes on, brushing the hair, packing the bags and off to nursery on a favorite scooter. But what happens when we're really sleepy and we want to get up so badly that our body pulls us back to bed? What if the two legs of our trousers just won't slip over either of our legs and our sweaters keep falling off our backs? Our shoes start to take on a life of their own, our socks crawl up our hands instead of our feet, our combs get stuck in our hair and our skirts won't stay in place. And time is like a pair of tight pyjamas. It's not an ordinary morning. This is a Dress-Up Adventure!
At 11:30 a.m. an exhibition of puppets from the Puppet Theatre of Niš will be opened at Children's Theatre of Subotica. Featured on display will be the puppets of such exquisite artists as Milena Jeftić, Ničeva Kostić, Ivanka Getova, Ljubica Suturović, Arsen Ćosić, Stevanka Kjuvlijeva, Erika Janović, Dragana Breza, Dušan Stanković and Irina Somborac from the plays The Puppet Bible, Velimir and Bosiljka, The Wizard of Oz, The Emperor's Prisoner, Mozart, Peppercorn, The Nightingale, Alice in Wonderland, Little Ida's Flowers and The Ice Queen.
From September 24 to 27, The Magical Stage, an exhibition by Erika Janović, will be open to public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This versatile artist, well-known beyond the borders of the country, takes the viewer to a magical world of fairy-tales and make-believe stories of childhood and coming of age.
At Hotel Patria venue, a discussion session with Jaroslaw Antoniuk (one of this year's winners of The Little Prince award) will be held at 4:00 p.m.
As part of the festival’s film program, Subotica’s Eurocinema will host a screening of a Belgian animated film The Inseparables at 11 a.m.
