In a preschool environment, puppets are welcomed guests and teacher's helpers when it comes to creating social groups. Very often, using a puppet (via puppet improvisation or by observing children’s reaction after a short puppet skit) - the teacher can gain an insight into children's understanding of the world, their family dynamics, problems and fears.
There are various ways of incorporating a puppet into children's ordinary lives.
The puppet (a social group buddy) is a designated character always present in the daily routine: either as a commentator of various activities or even as a didactic advisor on positive behavior, development of cultural and hygienic habits and mutual respect for differences within the group.
Spontaneous play with a puppet, talking with a puppet and acting out scenes from the child's life – all contribute to the understanding of the child's world and life.
An experienced educator utilizes a puppet for stage improvisation, riddles, performing skits inspired by everyday life, short introduction monologues/dialogues to an activity - all with the aim of stimulating children's creativity and expanding their knowledge.
In addition to spontaneous, creative games with a stage puppet as an everyday occurrence in a kindergarten group, there are games based on dramatic adaptation of literature art favorites.
The workshop will showcase examples of good practices in puppet-making, the methods of glove-moving and stick puppets. Creative plays with puppets that can be utilized in further work will be organized.
Workshop is held by Branka Rudman
