Masterclass: Folklore for Early Years

The masterclass is dedicated to creating engaging folklore for the youngest audiences—babies and very young children. This workshop focuses on crafting stories and environments suited for infants. An actor's role in this context involves using your human presence to engage these very young audiences through the senses. Authentic interactions bring these stories to life with energy, creativity, and empathy. The performance will be authentic to the intentions of the storyteller - engaging and perhaps interactive, creating a nurturing environment that captivates the youngest audience members.

In the masterclass we will use storycard theatre to frame our folktales and create environments using everyday materials which are more than fascinating to very young children. Cliodhna Noonan from Ireland is an early years theatre artist who creates work for audiences aged 0-6 and their care-givers.

Masterclass is intended for professional actors, educators, and pedagogues.

Cliodhna founded three international festival events for the early years community and she is currently an artist in residence at Axis Theatre in Ballymun and lecturer on socio-dramatic play at DCU (Dublin City University).
