Director Renata Carola Gatica: This production is intended to introduce children to the musical-theatrical genre of opera which is a demanding form for children's attention span and their general interests. Yet, I am convinced that we must start educating children from a very early age. The play will not be the usual opera, even though we have derived as much from Mozart as possible. The music remained the centerpiece of the show as everything dramatic and theatrical in the play revolves around the music. The singing - which was a challenge for the actors - has been adapted for children. We've ”sanitized” Mozart’s plot a bit, because we wanted it to become a fairy tale in which the prince saves the princess, with a fight and the ultimate triumph of good over evil. The performance will be witty and playful, so I hope that the next time our audience is offered Mozart, they will fully embrace it.
